Massive 12″ Bowie cut down from a F Dick No. 50 Lobster Splitter, weighing in at a hefty 41.9 oz with brass fittings and old brown linen micarta handle scales.
This looks very much like it could have been made during WW2 when sailors used the machine shops onboard US Navy ships to make knives as they were in short supply early in the war. Micarta like this was a common material to find and the half rosette rivets would be consistent with that time as well. However, being that is no provenance on this knife so it cannot be said with 100% certainly that this is the story, but it is a fabulous knife none the less.
